Our most recent production:
Images of Her
THROUGH/IN Music by Douglas Anderson, Libretto by Andrew Joffe
is a monodrama about the differences between the persona we present to the world, and the world we hold inside ourselves. In this one-woman tour-de-force, performed by Nicole Salamon, the dichotomy is explored through the device of a mirror, as the woman sitting at a make-up table prepares herself physically and emotionally to face what comes next.
SIMONETTA Music by Larry Lipkis, Libretto by Robert Block
is the story of the artist Sandro Botticelli and his young model and muse Simonetta Vespucci. When she dies suddenly, Botticelli is heartbroken and becomes prey to the extreme religious views of the Dominican friar Savonarola. In this four-person chamber opera, composed in a modern lyrical style and incorporating music from the era of Botticelli, the emotional journey of the celebrated artist reveals the timeless themes that span the centuries: the complex relationship of artists to their muses, populism and cultism in society, the voice of a strong woman asserting her beliefs against a patriarchal society and, ultimately, the sanctity and eternal life of art. Performed by Rachel Arky, Lianne Gennaco, Seth Gilman, and Steven Tompkins.
Both works will be directed by Andrew Joffe, with music direction and conducting by Douglas Anderson.
